One of the most annoying features is setting up a Sitecore instance, changing the password for the default admin account and then forgetting it. Fear not.. it is pretty easy to reset the default Sitecore admin’s password back to ‘b’.
It should be noted that this SQL snippet will only work on the admin account. If you try it on another account then it won’t work. Sitecore creates a unique salt for user passwords, so this password will only work for this user. If you wanted to create a back-up for another account, you can look in the Sitecore database in the ‘aspnet_Membership’ table and copy the password field for a user to use later.
UPDATE [aspnet_Membership] SET Password='qOvF8m8F2IcWMvfOBjJYHmfLABc=' WHERE UserId IN (SELECT UserId FROM [aspnet_Users] WHERE UserName = 'sitecore\Admin')
The snippet is pretty easy, we get the Guid of the user from the ‘aspnet_users’ table and use that to reset the password to ‘qOvF8m8F2IcWMvfOBjJYHmfLABc=’ or ‘b’.
